If you’ve ever dreamed of exploring the untouched corners of South America by sea, Antarctica21’s Patagonia & Chilean Fjords Sea Voyage offers a rare and unforgettable journey. Operating just twice per year (in September and in April), this expedition is a rare opportunity to visit the most iconic locations as well as hidden gems of this sub-Antarctic region. Exclusively designed by Antarctica21, this itinerary sails between Puerto Montt, Chile, and Ushuaia, Argentina, offering guests the chance to access some of the wildest and most remote coastal regions on Eart, and experience Patagonia like never before.

Here are five reasons to set sail on this unforgettable journey.

Breathtaking Landscapes

Where evergreen forests meet millennial glaciers, the Chilean fjords reveal a dramatic, awe-inspiring landscape. This region is a place of contrasts—dense temperate rainforests carpet rugged mountain slopes, while brilliant blue glaciers snake their way down from snow-capped peaks to meet the sea. Sailing through this remote maze of channels and fjords, you'll witness the unfiltered power of nature. Waterfalls plunge from cliffs, low-hanging clouds curl over jagged ridges, and the light dances across ancient ice fields. It’s a landscape that feels almost mythical and one that few travelers get to see.

Singular Wildlife

The southern reaches of Patagonia are home to some of the most extraordinary marine and bird life on the planet. During your voyage, keep your eyes on the horizon—you may spot humpback whales, Peale’s dolphins, fur seals, and other charismatic species navigating these cold, nutrient-rich waters. Above, a variety of seabirds soar alongside the ship, including albatrosses, petrels, and cormorants, while along the rocky shores, penguins and sea lions make their seasonal homes. This natural abundance makes every moment on deck a potential wildlife encounter.

Cultural & Historic Heritage

While Patagonia is famed for its wilderness, it’s also rich in human history. Along the way, you’ll explore regions like the Gulf of Penas and Caleta Tortel, a remote village built entirely on stilts and walkways. Our expedition guides share how members of these coastal communities carve a life from the rugged landscape and also reveal stories of early explorers, indigenous communities, and the maritime traditions that have shaped Patagonia’s unique cultural identity.

Glacier Alley & the Beagle Channel

One of the most striking stretches of the voyage is Glacier Alley, a breathtaking section of the Beagle Channel where towering glaciers cascade from the Darwin Range directly into the sea. Named after the famous voyage of Charles Darwin aboard the HMS Beagle, this channel is lined with immense, calving ice walls and icy blue glacial flows. Cruising through Glacier Alley is an unforgettable experience, where the silence is punctuated only by the creaking of ice and the occasional thunderous collapse of a calving glacier.

Tierra del Fuego

At the southernmost tip of South America lies Tierra del Fuego, a land of myth, mountains, and maritime legacy. Named the Land of Fire by early explorers who saw the glow of indigenous campfires along the shore, this remote archipelago is steeped in natural drama and cultural history. From the deck of Magellan Explorer, you'll sail past rugged coastlines, windswept islets, and the historic port of Ushuaia, often called El Fin del Mundo, or End of the World. The region is a gateway to Antarctica and a place where the boundary between land, sea, and sky blurs into a landscape of extremes.

Offered only aboard Magellan Explorer—and with fewer than 100 guests on board—this journey is both adventurous and immersive. You’ll travel in comfort, enjoy the finest of Chilean cuisine, and benefit from the knowledge and passion of Antarctica21’s expedition team—all while sailing a route that’s rarely accessible to travelers.

Just like every expedition journey, no Patagonia & Chilean Fjords sea voyage is the same. Our expedition team will guide you to make the most of your trip. Whether you’re seeking natural wonder, remarkable wildlife, or cultural depth, the Patagonia & Chilean Fjords Sea Voyage offers a truly singular experience.
