Travel Influencer Dottie: “Antarctica is Beyond Anything I Could’ve Imagined”

Antarctica is a destination that’s beyond imagination. Recently, the travel influencer from the United States, Dorothy Schrock, also known as Dottie, embarked on a Classic Antarctica Air-Cruise aboard Magellan Explorer, and had the unique opportunity to see some of the most amazing places that blew her mind.

As a travel influencer, Dottie and her husband, Lenza, have been to over 30 countries. Even so, Antarctica is a place that, as she said, is “beyond anything I could’ve imagined”.

In this interview, the professional traveler tells us about her experience in Antarctica with Antarctica21, why she decided to live this adventure with us, and the highlight moments of her trip.

1) Why did you decide to go to Antarctica with Antarctica21?

We were drawn to the idea of a smaller, more intimate expedition. Having around 75 guests instead of hundreds completely changes the energy, it feels more personal and intentional. Antarctica is a special place, and we wanted to experience it in a way that felt respectful and immersive rather than crowded or rushed.

2) What did you like the most about this expedition with Antarctica21?

The expedition staff, without question. Their depth of knowledge and genuine passion for the continent made everything we saw feel richer and more meaningful. Every excursion was thoughtfully planned and incredibly well-run, which allowed us to stay fully present instead of worrying about logistics. And the kayaking was unforgettable.

3) How did experiencing Antarctica change the way you think about the continent?

Before going, Antarctica felt almost mythical. It was incredible to experience the wildlife up close and see how active and alive the continent really is, and how it's not just ice. There’s something about the scale and the remoteness that’s hard to fully appreciate until you’re actually there. I understand now why it has drawn so many explorers and adventurers over the years.  

4) Share a moment or image that you still think about now that you’re back home

Drifting silently in a kayak surrounded by massive icebergs and having a whale appear right in front of me! Every kayak was so amazing. And the shock of the water when I did the polar plunge!
