Sustainability

There's a moment that stays with every traveler who steps onto Antarctica for the first time: the stillness, the vastness, the feeling that you've arrived somewhere the world hasn't yet touched. Protecting that feeling is at the heart of everything we do. At Antarctica21, we believe that exploring the most pristine continent on Earth comes with a responsibility to keep it that way. And now, we're inviting you to follow that commitment more closely through a new digital publication: The A21 Journal's Sustainability Edition.

This compact, quarterly digital publication shares the sustainability stories behind our operations, from bold initiatives to smaller, quieter decisions. This first edition covers our latest efforts across innovation, local community engagement, and environmental responsibility. Here's a glimpse of what you'll find inside:

- From Parkas to Purpose: In 2025, we partnered with Puro Viento, a local SME in the Magallanes region with over 15 years of experience transforming discarded textiles. Together, we upcycled 38 decommissioned expedition parkas into 100 reusable travel cases through a process that requires no additional water or industrial energy. Materials that might have ended up in a landfill were given a second life, and a new story to tell.

- Turning Waste into a Living Space: Working alongside Patagonia Circular, we transformed over 540 kg of recycled plastic into outdoor furniture and planters for Explorers House, our private expedition center in Punta Arenas, Chile. Those planters now house year-round mini-greenhouses connected to our culinary program, linking what we grow to what we serve, and what we value as an organization: respect for the land, innovation, and consistency with our Patagonian roots.

At Antarctica21, sustainability is rooted into the very place where your journey starts: Punta Arenas, Chile. Watch how Explorers House brings together solar energy, watersaving, local partnerships, and more, to set the tone for a responsible Antarctic experience.

These stories are just a glimpse of what you'll find in the first edition of The A21 Journal. Inside, you'll also discover updates on our CarbonNeutral® certification (renewed for the sixth consecutive year), our pioneering e-Fuel partnership with HIF Global, and the work of the Antarctica21 Foundation in science and education.
